Howdy!
Hobie has a problem with the name of our craft, and I think they realize it. My beloved and I have a similar problem in how to refer to our boats...
In conversation with ourselves and others, the name "Adventure Island" has a lot of syllables. It simply doesn't roll of the tongue, and is easily confused with the "Adventure", from which it evolved. It's also not descriptive.
We personally use the term "AI", which many on this forum also use. But this isn't a descriptive acronym and confuses others when we talk about it.
As mentioned earlier, I suspect Hobie knows this is a problem for such a unique boat. Their sales literature floats the term "sail yak", which accurately describes it. yet sux. "Sail yak" sounds like a clumsey tongue twister. Try saying it as fast as you can 10 times.
Hobie is perhaps stuck with the model moniker of "Adventure Island". Are we as enthusiasts similarly stuck with "Adventure Island", "AI", or worst of all "Sail Yak"?
What do you refer to your AI's as? Do you have a totally cool descriptive name which is easily spoken?
The winner of this contest gets a great BBQ when passing thru Jackson Hole.
Happy Trails!
