I understand the block, but don't understand the increased load to breaking point. What breaks?

Think it's the furling drum becoming loose on the mast. It's happed to a couple of people but easily fixed with the right epoxy glue.

I still Have not encountered a situation where I need to lock the Rudder Down line in the Cleat!! I am not understanding what conditions people are sailing in to require this? I am often sailing in winds that it is impossible to stay in the seat or I would be capsized almost immediately. I Hike out on the tramps to prevent this and even out the ama burying which increases speed. Still my GPS speed record (when I remember to bring it) is 10.3 MPH so far.
Yes I do have to have some rudder input to keep my course but have never had the rudder kick up on its own unless I hit something .. so I don't see the advantage of locking it down?
