Hi all, I have recently bought an 09 boat and it has the old cam style lock down mechanism. I'm just wondering how many 09 boats there are floating around out there with the old style locking mechanisms. Apparently a supply problem with the 08 Mirage Drive locking mechanism saw a run of 09 Adventure Islands (?Adventures also) with the old style mechanism. My second AI which I pick up Saturday has a build number ~940 boats later in the production run and has the new mechanism so I'll end up with one of each. I'm not really concerned about it but it was a little annoying to buy a new boat without the updated mech. I'm supposing that if I search the fine print in the catalog I'll find a reference to specifications subject to change without notice. Any thoughts? DJ |

Geocacher, I think they slipped an 08 in on you. I picked up my new AI yesterday and it has the new type locking mechanism in it. It is not logical that they had a shortage of the new type locking mechanisms because they have been out for over a year now. The 08 inflatables had them. By the way, in my bag of extra stuff, there are two little rubber cups, 2.25 inches high, a little over an inch and one half wide at the top and about an inch wide at the bottom. They have a tiny lip on one side at the top with a hole in the lip, perhaps to attach a line to. The Hobie "H" is stamped on the inside bottom of each. I have no idea what they are for. Can anyone tell me? I am taking my new AI out for the first time today. Tempature is supposed to hit a high of 61 here in Pensacola and the water temp is in the mid 50's but I have a wet suit and booties in case I get wet. My Hull No. is CCMD7243G809 Perhaps the last "09" is the year? Ron Patterson |

the will fit in the scupper hold behind the seal to keep water out. I recommend leaving them out, no need for them unless you have gear back there, even then its gone get wet anyways. You would use the plugs if you were just kayaking and not sailing. |

The new locking mechanism is the "click and go" like the 08 inflatables. The old system used rotating cams. |

The old system used rotating cams. Page 3 of the small Hobie Mirage Kayaks Assembly Manual that came with our AIs has illustrations and several refernces to the Click-N-Go camlocks. Dave, I am very surprised to read that you have the old mechanism as yours would have come from the same Australian distributorship as ours and I expect from the same dealer

Geocacher, Check your mirage drive to see if you have the brass inserts in the sprocket (where the drive mast is attached at the top of the fins). If not then I would say it was the older model. Yeah: http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=11416 If you check on the Open Forum - Kayaking and the KFS website, a number of people are having the same problem with the click and go not fitting - no-one seems to have come up with a satisfactory answer so far. |

Okay, if I'm looking in the right spot and I think I am there's no brass bush for the fin mast in the mirage drive. Also the 4 digits in the hull number denoting the serial number are earlier than the 7243 in the S/N of Pirates 09 boat. Does anyone know what the last 4 digit S/N component of the hull number issued to an 08 boat was? Pics of the mirage drive fin mast socket also now:
