Here is a link to a very good cause and an interesting and challenging paddling adventure that is using SPOT to facilitate tracking in real time.

They have only completed two days of this trip so far.
It makes me wonder whether we couldn't do something similar with our AIs?
It would be intersting to know what speeds they achieve/average with these very long 6 man outrigger canoes.
Bob you may be able to throw some light on that as I think they originate from Hawaii

This is another live SPOT test. The test will start at 12:05 PM. Today, Easter Sunday, my wife and I are doing a short paddle out of Matheson Hammock Park just south of Miami along Biscayne Bay. It is a beautiful day. 69 deg F this morning. It will be about 82 deg F when we launch about 12:20 PM, Eastern Daylight Savings Time (GMT-4). I am going to put my SPOT on tracking. The first point should be on a road near Old Cutler Road southwest of Miami. I will leave SPOT on until we are done with our paddle and near Fairchild Gardens—maybe pick up another road site where I am traveling 35 mph with SPOT on the dash of my 4-Runner. Some of today’s paddle will be in open water, then we will enter an everglades-like tidal creek—fairly complex area.
