Here's a frame from a Vid I shot this morn upon the High Sea, I'll construct a video featurette when I have enough angles.

Thank you, your appreciation made the effort worthwhile.

Swells were up to 2 metres later this day and wind to 16 knots, water was constantly flowing over the forward hatch, but when I made landfall after 3 hours there was only a few cups of bilge, amazing!

I got this very shiny camera at INTERBIKE bicycle trade show in Vegas last Sept.
It came with multifarious brackets and straps, I modded a bicycle headlamp bracket with an attached plastic tongue that slid down the mast sleeve 'twixt the mast pole and the sail. When erected you can rotate the camera angle by pulling on the Main Sheet or Furling Sheet.

I have used it on my Surf Kayak also and got some spectacular results.

That's a fantastic shot Skymax! You get a real sense of movement. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing it....gives the rest of us lots of room for invention.

You can see the whole boat from the "crows nest" viewpoint. Interested in seeing more.

Yes, Skymax, terrific shot.

I have said several times the front hatch cover is a minor source of leakage--unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Twist-n-Seal hatches.

Yup, there was maybe only half a Litre and a good proportion of that slopped in through the cockpit hatch when I opened it to use the Marine Transceiver.
(If yo dont radio in on schedule Coastal Patrol will come to sea looking for you.)

Look forward to seeing it. curtiously, what resolution does the camera shoot video with?

also, how long can it shoot once you hoist it up there? Or does it have a remote?

G'Day Dale, It shoots in either 720 x 576 PAL or 640 x 480 NTSC (Never The Same Color), resolution.
It can be played back directly on yo TV or Downloaded onto yo Computer, it shoots an hour of Video or about 2000 5 megapixel stills, (I think), in pre-selected intervals, no remote.
A Video may be 6 months as we are entering Winter here and the water is down to a chilly 72F, also I am about to leave Oz for the USA Summer in June and may not be back until Sept.
Flatteringly the GOPRO people have asked permission to use the Hobie AI photo on their website, I hope it generates more AI owners, Mission Accomplished.

Max,

That weather looks very like the kind of seastate we get over here routinely. I have found very little water gets into the forward hatch even though the bow spends quite a bit of time submerged through waves. Removing the mirage drive definitely helps and as suggested in a different post, the A1 has less of tendency to yaw.

I noticed that you appear to have a red bungee arrangement at the rear between ama's. Is this a barber hauler arrangement?

I looked at the Gopro website link you posted. Which version did you get and when you attach it to the mast is there much cable or is the unit self contained?. I presume you could mount the camera virtually anywhere.

Get the GoPro Surf Hero cam. They're awesome. We have a few here that we mount all over the kayaks with RAM mounts, Scotty mounts, etc.
