Sailing around San Diego bay today there was plenty of America's Cup action.
This is a replica of the original America, first winner of what became known as the America/s Cup. As you can see, it is sporting a good sized crew today as it heads out to sea. Owned by Dennis Conner, it is berthed at the Maritime Museum here.
What a coincidence -- next here comes USA 76, an entry by BMW/Oracle in the 3003 campaign. It also has plenty of deck hands. Maybe they'll be racing!
In the meantime, tucked in a back corner of the bay, is the current BMW Oracle getting its new wing/sail fitted:
Their photographer, obviously impressed by it's sister ship, the Hobie AI, wastes no time documenting the visit from atop the wing:
Here's what the new wing looks like:
Here's a pan shot showing the huge size of this thing. If you look carefully, there is a purple circle toward the right atop the wing. This is one of the workers:
There's always lots going on on and around the water here -- what a great place to sail!
