I have some concern putting my boat on a river in Kayak mode. I want to go to a river in NE Oklahoma, but I'm worried my boat could have some issues. Should I be worried about maneuvering around obstacles? How swift of water can it handle? Could it take a small drop like 20 inches? What are the limitations if any? What do I need to be especially careful of? I'm still pretty new at the sport, so far I've stuck to lakes and coves. Any advice will help.

thanks guys,

Mitch

It would depend on the river. You don't want the Mirage Drive near rapids or eel grass in shallow water, but you can pull the drive and paddle if you need to. Current is more complex, but you should be able to easily handle anything a proficient paddler can, barring restrictions already noted.

Moving water, per se, is not a problem. Keep in mind, the Adventure does not turn on a dime like some of the other kayaks do. Downstream you need to know your boat and plan your turns in advance. Still, the Adventure can still get into some pretty skinny water, even with Turbofins:

Use plenty of paddle language when descending fast flows, remember your rudder will be in water that is moving about the same speed as the boat so not very effective.

Mkabrick, are in Oklahoma. I live in NE Oklahoma. I have not try my AI on a river yet but most of NE Oklahoma rivers are easy floating rivers and believe that it could be use on them. I would not use the Mirage Drive or the rudder because the river could get very shadow real quick.

What rivers are you thinking of taking your AI on?
