What is the best way to store a kayak this weight and size when not in the water? Any way to safely store it with the amas still attached but folded? How is upside down on a sawhorse?

I store mine on the trailer with Amas retracted but *not* strapped down (so as not to put stress on the hull). The bars that it rests on are basically 2x4s covered with marine-grade carpeting. Seems to work well so far....

We leave ours on our Trailex trailer with a boat cover in place.

Ditto, I do release the AMA bungees and need to get a cover for it and it also sits in a covered shed when we are not going to use for an extended time.

well thank you all for the timely responses - great stuff! Although I don't have a trailer I am going to try storing it on its side against the fence with the amas removed and covered of course. I would be afraid that the wind here would knock it off the saw horses which given the choice between these 2 options I feel would cause more damage if it fell. Will report in if I notice any negative hull changes.

BTW- took it out for the first time yesterday and couldn't be happier. Am joining the crowd of happy Hobie faces.

There is a 2nd bungi peg on the rear akas. Is this for the trampoline?

We leave the Tandem on the trailer in our garage. All bungees released.

To get the Tandem & trailer to squeeze into our garage, we position the Tandem very far forward on its spine.

We leave the straps on. One less thing to have to worry about when we want to sail at a moment's notice. So to minimize hull deformation, we route the straps in this configuration. This holds the vaka and amas down, instead of squeezing them together and causing the amas to deform.

Hi mkrawats,
Is three cradles standard for the TI? I am in the process of converting a Swedish trailer to receive my TI but thought that two Hobie cradles were sufficient.

Hi Boka.

For most everyone, two cradles will suffice.

But in order to squeeze everything into my garage without hassle, we store the Tandem far forward on the trailer. To provide proper support for the boat when positioned this far forward on the trailer, we ordered a second sets of cradles. 4 cradles in total.

The rear two cradles are installed on the trailer's rear axle's "box". Its sole purpose is to provide a smooth surface for sliding the Tandem when loading and off-loading only. We don't want to risk scratching the boat on the aluminum bars.

The forward two cradles carry the majority of the load of the boat when the Tandem is sitting forward during transport and storage. The cradles are positioned under each of the Mirage drive wells for maximum support.

This setup satisfies all my requirements. Able to single hand effortlessly. And the boat should age very well by storing everything in my garage.
