This has become an interesting thread!

In theory, the drives should alter the CLR when in the down position. Forward drive only moves CLR forward, increasing weather helm. Aft drive only should do the opposite, increasing lee helm.

However, I suspect that weight distribution could be an even bigger influence in the TI, since as PBurling and Jerry have observed, this does have an effect on helm.

Ideally you would have a slight amount of weather helm, first for safety, and second because the rudder will create lift to windward.

Next time I get out in a breeze I'll have to move to the front seat and try it out. I haven't wanted to sit up there because I'm pretty tall (6'3") and I'll have a lot of ducking to do when the sail goes over my head. It's also harder to see the tell tales from the front seat. My wife rode up there once and ended up with a stiff neck for days.
