Speed of Ai and Ti under Mirage Drive

Awaiting my Ti delivery and a question please:

Has anybody measured the speed of the Ti with...

a) one person pedalling
b) two persons pedalling

Also the same with the Ai (one person of course:-)

Assuming of course no wind or water flow

The TI two up pedaling has a slight advantage over the AI. I find if the wind dies expect a speed of about 6km/h pedaling with the AI and closer to 7 km/h with the TI. Haven't tried the TI solo pedaling.

Does anybody out there use aTi solo? I am planning on using mine solo quite a lot (when it arrives).

I agree with stringy on the two-up pedaling of the TI. I've taken ours out solo a number of times and it's a lot slower with one pedaling. Depending on the wind conditions, the sailing can be slower as well because Cindy wasn't there to provide ballast on the upwind trampoline.

I've been taking my TI out solo in single outrigger mode and been able to easily maintain 3-4mph pedalling speeds from the back seat to keep up with (or even pass) most of my paddle kayak friends while trolling. The main issue that I have is the solo loading and unloading to/from my truck racks. It can get difficult (not impossible) after a long day of fishing; but, luckily there are always friends around to lend a hand.

Loading and unloading has been enough of an issue for me to consider purchasing an Adventure for my short solo training runs. But on runs that I plan to be out all day, the TI rocks...

It feels a bit faster with pedalling in tandem mode maybe about an extra mph/knot. The extra speed doesn't seem to be all that noticeable. Maybe it's because the pedaller (me) in the rear seat tends to slack a little bit knowing there's someone pedalling up front.

There is quite a difference pedaling with the full sailing rig attached vs. pedaling in the kayak mode. Which did you have in mind?

I'm thinking of the situation where one is sailing but the wind drops completely. Then I can work out how far from shore and how long to peddle back etc.

So - with rig attached.

My daughter and I competed in the 3 Rivers Race: 26 kms in 3h 35m = 7.4 km/hr.

However, two very fit people in a TI would slash that time down considerably. So perhaps the question is: what speed can you maintain for 1, 2 or 3 hours? That will vary a lot between individuals.

Congratulations!! That was not bad at all! Think what you could have achieved with the TI in kayak mode without your mast and sail. I have managed 25km in 3h 10m 19s, but that was in an Adventure, kayak mode and without mast. I think you could beat me.

26km you can´t do without feeling a bit worn out!

A bit ??? I was exhausted, and when I swung my legs over the side of the yak to get out, I collapsed... my legs didn't know how to stand, just jelly!

Must get at least a bit fitter for the next one.
