Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone here (or if you know of anyone) has done the Bass Strait crossing in an Adventure Island?

Plenty of people seem to manage it in proper sea kayaks, but

For those who are unfamiliar with Bass Strait, there's plenty of info on Google, along with this list of trips along with some really interesting trip reports:

http://www.laurieford.net/maatbass.htm

I suspect the A.I.'s advantage would lie in its stability and sail...

Cheers,

Mike.

Hey Stringy,

Sounds cool... I can possibly hook you up with a few other locals (Victorians) who are planning a Bass Strait A.I. crossing (probably) next year...

Cheers,

Mike.

@slaughter,

I believe the chaps planning the trip are members over on akff.net, but not sure if they're regulars here...

Sounds like an tempting trip, but since I don't have any open water experience and don't even have an A.I. yet, it may be something I'll have to try at a later date!

Mike.

Mate - you'll be one of the first to know if I make any serious plans.
4 of us recently completed a 100 km trip through Gippsland Lakes. The other three were new to the AI & have developed a lot of confidence from the way they handled some pretty wild conditions. Two of the have crossed the ditch several times in conventional sailing boats & I don't think they have it on their bucket list at present. Too busy playing in all our local waterways! There's lots of places to explore......
I still haven't got around to fishing yet!
I think there is also a fair chance we might take our boats across on the ferry.
One of my local mates is a sailor from Tassie & he has shown me enough video & spun enough yarns to get juices going.......... :)
We also talk about going to Gabo ( from Mallacoota) & even Kangaroo Island!
They also talk about taking them to Harvey Bay, Fraser Is etc!
I think we need a Hobie Adventure Tour Club! Could be a full-time lifestyle 8) :D
