Has anyone made a mast carrier for the AI or TI? I'd like to build a carrier for transport that would support the mast horizontally slightly above the boat.

Thanks

I had the same idea. Check out "Yakima MultiMounts" for paddles, masts, etc. Yeah, they're designed for Yakima roof racks, but I imagine they could somehow be fitted to the boat without too much effort. Thule used to make something called the "Thule 839 Get-A-Grip Mast & Canoe/Kayak Paddle Holder", but it's no longer available. Too bad, it had locks for the holder AND the mast! It was PERFECT. I don't know why they stopped making it. You might also try a rifle rack typically used on 4-wheel ATCs, but you'd have to get your own stainless steel nuts & bolts, as these aren't marine-rated.

I use a thule mast carrier, it bolts straight up onto the aka mounts that are fitted to the main hull (tandem island 2010). It is handy for transporting masts when travelling on the car and also when the mast is taken down on the water for passing under low bridges etc.

The Thule 839 Get-a-Grip Mast Carrier is available from REI in Seattle, Washington. You'll have to call the Seattle store directly because these items are no longer available on their website. There are several REI stores in the Seattle area, but I think the number for the specific store is 206-223-1944. At the time of this writing, they have 5 pairs in stock, and they're CHEAP... about $11.00 for a box of two.
