Mike,

When I bought my used 2011 and contacted the dealer in Tampa, FL, by phone, they gave me a lot of grief. Claimed I was the second owner and the rudder replacement did not hold for 2nd owners. When I questioned this, they hung up on me. I contacted Hobie directly, and they said the dealer was wrong and immediately sent a new rudder.

Hi guys,

Just resurrecting this thread...

I recently picked up a 2001 A.I. which has the 'interim' twist-n-stow
rudder (with the bungee tie-down).

I wonder if I qualify for the rudder replacement as discussed here?

Cheers,

Mike.

Mike, contact the dealer(s) and provide them with the full complete hull number. Once they have that, they will advise and supply if the model year is correct.

I recently asked my trusted dealer if I could retro-fit the new Rudder to replace my 2009 model twist&stow, he said it was not possible because the mounting system on the stern has been physically changed from the earlier models.

Many thanks go out to Steve Fields for organising the rudder-upgrade package
for my A.I.

Now I just have to find the time to fit it!

I'm going to follow some of the excellent suggestions in this thread and use
the original control lines.

Cheers,

Mike.

It's been several years on this topic, so I thought I would bring it up again. Is there a solution in the last several years to the earlier versions of the AI where a new ruddre can be added instead of the twist n stow? We have a 2007 and 2008 and have a plastic pin that has to hold down the rudder in heavy wind. We have to remember to loosen that plastic pin before bringing up the rudder and involves getting in the water to unscrew it. This weekend, I forgot and the rudder pin snapped. Having no replacement and about 2 miles from where we launched, I replaced the broken pin with an allen wrench. I sure would like to have a better rudder set up.

There is no replacement for the Twist and Stow for Islands. The transom was made larger to fit the larger rudders. The old transoms are too small.

Matt, I think he means the original rudder with the hand tightened plastic bolt-lock vs the up/down lines from ~2009-10 on.
