I recently received a new ama for my TI. The old one was warped, thanks Hobie for making this right! I noticed that the new ama has a thicker bungee 2X to attach to the aka. I wasnt sure if this had been covered here or not but I thought I would mention it. It would seem that if Hobie has made a change that others may want to follow suit and upsize theirs at the next changeout. I didnt check the catalog to see if this would mean a new size plug or not. Anyone know?

So what size does it measure? First I've heard of it, but a good idea.

Thanks for that Tiki Tack.
Another example of Hobie listening and improving the product. 8)
A few of us added double bungees so it will be interesting to see if the thicker bungee is all that is needed. It's a much simpler upgrade -just drill out the bungee retainer.

I snapped a pic of my two amas side by side. You can see the one I just got as a replacement is bigger.

If a customer orders a replacement ama, not as a warranty request, does it come with all the fittings?

Tiki,

Thanks for the pics. Experienced too much chattering from where my aka's connect into my ama's. More intense than I was comfortable with during a recent run in bumpy seas.

How'd you order you new set of replacement bungees?

Tiki - thanks for the post. It appears the new bungie is 3/8" - up from the original 1/4" stock.

Looks to be a quick, sensible and cheap upgrade if you want to rely on a single chord.

So far, I'm very happy with the double bungee mod. As long as you don't misplace them, they are great. No more wobblies.

Just a note to those who try this: the shock chord hooks I bought from Hobie only fit the 1/4" chord. And I had a tough time threading that size.
