What do you people do for music on board? Waterproof radios? Solar crankable radios? I was thinking about getting a solar crank type and keeping it in 1 of the storage holes near the seats. I don't know how that would sound being muffled, but it's the best solution I can think of since it's not water proof.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the music of the wind and the waves! 8)

Yes, I expected to see that answer, but after many hours of solitude, I would like some music. This would be for music for 2 as well, on a tandem island, so personal devices with headphones would be out.

AH... drown out the passenger... I see where you're going with this!

I neglected to say that the passenger would be a female, but you figured it out!

If she's old enough to read, your going to get an earful!

Have seen many threads on this subject. And gone through many radios myself.

The sensible solution seems to be a cheap shower radio with a good speaker. Must be kept in a plastic bag. (Sony ICF-S79W is compact and has a weatherband)

If you can find a model with an AUX input for a throwaway MP3 player, that's even better.

Is the plastic bag for salt water? It's a shower radio. Are they not waterproof?

Splashproof - with freshwater only is about the best you can expect.

Oh - and remember that fishies can hear music through the hull. Do you want to sneak up on them?

Oh, oh - and sometime when it's really blowing out there, turn up "The Flight of the Valkyries".

She'll dig that.

If I were fishing, I wouldn't want a radio on, but I probly won't be. I would just like to have some music while I am sailing.

I got a waterproof headphone and waterproof bag that holds my ipod. the bag has a male connection on the inside of the bag (goes in to the ipod), and a female on the outside (connects to the headphones). Ipod is always safe. I love to get out wind in my hair (well I am bald  ) and music in my ears

I thought about doing that with my Samsung Infuse, but at $600 replacement, I'm not taking any chances with it. Instead, I just bought this:

Water resistant up to JIS7 standard!

I like that radio above! Might need to get one for Tiki Tack!

BTW I had to look it up ..."(JIS7 – Japanese Industrial Standards - submersible to 3.28 feet [1 meter] for up to 30 minutes)"...

If you have an mp3 player:

That looks pretty cool, Dan. Has IPX7 rating too.

I give the Sangean 3 months. Tops.

It does look nice, and it would be awesome to have my thousands of songs and other music services available, but I just wouldn't feel comfortable having a $600 fone (Samsung Infuse) in a little container out on the water.
