THE DEEP GEAR BUCKET IS HERE!

Image

71704021 GEAR BUCKET 8” – DEEP $19.99 List (USA 10-2011)
Fits 8” Twist and Seal Hatch. Deep profile and no dividers to allow storage for larger items. As with the original gear bucket, this is water resistant, not water proof. Items needing protection from water damage should always be stored with care or in water proof coverings. Fits most Hobie kayak models (Does not fit in Quest or Pro Angler).

TANDEM ISLAND DOLLY AVAILABLE NOW

We have created this cart to more easily carry the Tandem Island. It is very similar to a Catamaran style “Cat Trax”. Available with hard surface wheels or with soft sand beach wheels.

Easier to load and unload than a scupper cart. Carry the weight of the Tandem Island with ease over sand or hard surfaces. A wide cradle easily supports the weight. Does not use scuppers for support or alignment which prevents scupper damage. Handle allows easy cart manipulation when unloaded and easier cart insertion under the boat. Acts as a “kick-stand” to hold the cart upright for loading.

Quick pin – removable handle and wheels for compact storage.

Matt,

Will I be able to park TI on the new dolly for more than a few hours without getting hull deflection? Being able to do so would solve a lot of problems.

Hi Matt
Love the design for both items. Nice the Bucket should be deep enough for a standard sized VHF?
Could you tell me if the handle is pinned to the axle on the cart or welded.
Also could it be telescopic and what is the present length of that yellow 'rod/handle'?
What is the axle width between the center of the wheels, pls.
No intentions to copy the design (as that would be dishonest, which I'm not).
I have a couple of ideas of taking that cart further...
Thanks in advance
Fred

Tri,
Not certain, but suspect yellow handle may serve more as a 'kickstand'. Pulling the cart/hobiie would be performed by the handle at the front of the Hobie, after the cart is strapped on the hull. Just guessing.

Hey Pete
I guess I'm missing something then. For the handle to work as a kickstand, I would think the handle would have to be pointed towards the stern.
Balance on the cradles would also have to be dead centered to the vessel.
I guess we'll find out soon enough as the first one hits our dealers.

Thanks for the info, Steve

Could you buy the beach dolly and then use the wheels off the heavy duty cart to get the best of both worlds?

The axles are much larger that the plug in carts. The "Tuff Tires" would be the equivalent of the HD cart tires, but larger and stronger.

The handle is the same heavy duty fiberglass material as a stake out pole. It is pinned to the frame (removable). Perfect length to use when pulling the cart empty up the beach. Makes loading easy as you can direct the cart under the hull. Can be pointed fore or aft for loading. As a kick stand, just keeps the cradle upright. Has no function when the boat is on the cart. Rests right up against the hull. You can pull the load using the bow handle. Can strap the cart to the hull or not. The pads seem to grip the hull pretty well for anything but rough or steep conditions.

It is a wider cradle. You could leave the boat on it for some period of time. I would move the cart fore or aft and allow the cart to carry 50% of the load and the bow or stern the rest. If left centered on the hull... near 100% load on that point might cause issues. I think you could rest the bow on a padded milk crate or something.

Thanks Matt.
Yah, just couldn't quite figure it as it's way wider than what I thought it was.
Hmmm, yup, I think it could work quite well for my devious purposes, hehehe

Hi Matt,

This is probably a stupid question, but you mention that it would be ok to store the TI on these new carts for a bit longer. If the cart was positioned with additional support as you mention in your post, could you store the boat on the cart? Or is the only way to store a TI properly upside down.

Thanks

Definitely some cool new toys from Hobie, just in time for the holidays.

I was very excited to hear that Hobie is releasing a new "3rd generation" eVolve electric motor. It's not in the catalog yet, but it's codenamed the "Woodie", and it looks like the perfect auxiliary propulsion system for the solo sailor.

We are hoping to get one soon for field testing on the TI3.

Sorry, but the drive insertion point seems way too painful for me! LOL

Does anyone know if you can switch out the tires on the new TI dolly for different conditions?

You can swap tires. The axel adjusts inboard or out depending on the tire used.
