I knew there had to be an ignore button here somewheres ...

"Foes are users which will be ignored by default. Posts by these users will not be fully visible. Personal messages from foes are still permitted. Please note that you cannot ignore moderators or administrators."

... found under User Control Panel > Friends&Foes > Manage Foes

<wink> can be used on Whiners, Sarcastic Complainers with nothing good to say, Self Appointed Know-it-alls who respond to every post/thread, and "JUST" annoying people

Over the years I've belonged to (and help moderate) a multitude of boards for differing hobbies and such - on the ones I've stayed an active member, there always seems to be a few basic ground rules which work to keep the environment positive and happy ... the two most basic of which are

1) no personal attacks towards other members are tolerated. period.
Name calling is strickly forbidden

2) keep it PG rated at worst to promote a family environment b/c you never know who may be reading

Imagine how boring Gotham would be if Batman could just ignore the Joker.

I totally agree w/ you on #1. It's far too easy to derail a good online conversation w/ personality clashes, usually based upon misunderstandings. It would be far better to pm someone your concern first. Once it becomes public, folks get their feathers up, things escalate and often become absurd.

Aside from that, I prefer a forum free of censorship. It requires that we all endure a little serial whining, tasteless humor, over-posting and far too many :D :D :D , but it usually sorts itself out. (I'm amazed at what I get away with, at times).

Hobie has been very tolerant of members, in regards to thread content, tone and even direct criticism. Heck- whenever you gather a bunch of sailors in one place you have to be. ;-). But I have to say, I am impressed.

Matt's approach, that this forum can largely be "self regulating" seems to be working. When that fails, filtering "foes" seems useful too.

I love ya Al. Thanks for the tip.

I already started building my ####list!

Hey Alan
Odd, I read about the neg/pos list on members before I even signed up here.
Didn't really think I would have a need for it.
It's a learning experience, thanks for sharing.

Hi "Just" - Since I cant reply to your PM privately, I'll post it here:

I hold no malace against any man and am quick to forgive and forget. Life is Wayyyy to short so sweat the small stuff ...

You had made several posts that were counterproductive and caused others to have question as to your intent and reason - perhaps I was unfair in using your name in my post. If it caused you angst I apologise.

Often on boards there as a "familiarity" between users that is gained over time and appreciation. perhaps this boundary is one you violated with others ... intentionally or otherwise

We all come here to gain knowledge, share our fun, and perhaps make some friends.

I hope we can move foward towards all of those goals

Respectfully ...

Alan
