I've got a replacement hull supposedly arriving the first week of February Russ. If all goes well, I'll try and get down there.

8 AI/TIs on Pavillion Key, Everglades National Park, Jan 17, 2012

Hi Keith. Is the beige Island in your photo a ring-in or a converted Island Kayak?..Pirate

Pirate, I'm still not good at Aussie speak. What do you mean, "Ring in?" Also, I'm not sure which boat you mean by "beige boat" in my 8-AI/TIs photo. I've shown the picture and your comment to my wife, Nancy. She is REALLY smart, but could not understand it.

Please clarify.

Keith

How to Enjoy an 8-Day AI Camping Trip
This is Jim Quinlan enjoying a light wind day during our planned 7-day camping trip along coastal Everglades.

I laughed when my wife suggested I bring this umbrella but at the last minute strapped it to the hakas. It turned out to be a valuable addition to my gear especially pedaling the AI with no wind in the hot sun.

Once again .... the wife was right !

Hi Keith. This may help explain ring-in and many of the other words we Australians just seem to make up as we go along. http://www.goingrank.com.au/glossary.html
I can see in the photo that the Dune may look a bit beige. I think it's the sunset playing havoc with the colours.

Jim - Umbrellas should never be underestimated as a useful piece of kit for an AI/TI trip. But one thing we would never say is 'the wife was right' ( even though she almost always is  )

Thanks, Slaughter, for that crib sheet.

Pirate, I guess you are talking about the boat just right of center. It is Jim Quinlan's 2012 AI--dune. Probably the morning sun making it look a bit beige.

Boy, those dunes can be tough to see. On our recent trip, two of our AIs--a dune and a yellow--had stopped on shore. I was about 1/2 mi offshore (.8 km) The yellow AI stood out like a sore thumb; but, it was impossible to see the dune. I guess if you are stealth camping the dune would be the color of choice; but, if you are hoping to be rescued, you better have yellow.

Keith

You're spot on Keith. I was sailing back to shore in the Dune the other day and rang my wife to come down with the trailer and pick me up. She came down and looked straight out at me waving about 100m out then turned around and nicked off ( it’s in the crib sheet Keith ) to my other launch sites thinking she had the wrong site. I couldn't see how she couldn't see me but apparently the Dune just blends in with the scenery. Suits me just fine. ( until I need rescuing )

Yep Keith now I see it is one of those fantastic Dune coloured AI's. Just looked dinky die different to me....Pirate

PS I am reliably informed by Mickey that his and a friends yellow AIs attracted millions of pumkin beetles while he was out on the lake the other day while another red one did not have a single beetle anywhere near it.

Those beetles are known for their refined taste.

Yeah sure Chris. I have since consulted a pumpkin beetle specialist who believes they were likely looking for somewhere suitable to defecate on ... ..Pirate

this is quickly becoming my favorite thread on here. awesome pics, i can't wait to get my dune at the end of Feb. i had a red one before and thought the dune was a better color this time around but if its hard to see this could be bad since i'll be out near a bunch of much larger boats where i'm at :?

The issue of visibility was dealt with in some detail here: viewtopic.php?f=71&t=15955&p=84090 .

The were having mass gang bangs :o
