Howdy fellow island runners. I was curious as to some of the creative names y'all have given your boats. The name my wife and chose for ours is " No Worries". Where is the best placement for a name to be placed? How did y'all do it paint or stickers? |

Howdy and Aloha No! That works. But tell her the Hawaiian version "NOHUHU" is taken.  If you are using a trailer, you may need to reserve the bow area for boat registration numbers. It will make your access to Kaneohe Bay less hassle... (no worries, right?)

Hi Topher. Mine are vinyl stickers. Easy to apply, cost about $25 for the 2. So far they have stayed put without lifting. The font is 'Porsche 911' which is very appropriate I reckon. |

I have a name all picked out "rude buoy", but need to get the vinyls made up and put it on. I came up with the idea when I was inspired by a boat named "notti buoy" leaving sarasota going offshore fishing this past Saturday. |

NOHUHU, I have great access to the bay. I live in Kauhale Beach Cove and we have our own private boat ramp so if you ever want easy acsess to the bay with out the lines let me know. Have you ever been told that you needed to register your kayak? Thanks for the links, I am just curious how well vinyl stickers will stay on the hull. Seems like they would peel off easily. For 5 1/2 years now, DLNR has been telling both dealers and owners they don't want (or need?) us to register them. As of last month in a discussion with a DLNR officer, we were told not to worry about registering until they tell us different. Until the TI came out, the dealers in Hawaii were not receiving (or maybe not asking for) the paperwork from Hobie required to register the boats, so to my knowledge no one in our group (on Maui) except maybe the few TI owners even have the paperwork required to register them. I requested papers for all my boats a while ago from my dealer (Kelly at P&P) but am not sweating it until we are told they want us registered. But then again, they could ticket us at any time for not following the letter of the law, but following what they've been telling owners and dealers. I've heard from a few people on Oahu that some have been hassled, not by DLNR, but by a Coast Guard Auxiliary member, to the point that a few have registered to stop the harassment, but this is all 3rd hand reports. NOHUHU can probably fill you in better for Oahu. |

Each one of my hulls has a name, The Main is Moe  and amas are Larry  and Curly  .

Yes, it's a gray area. And it's often handled differently on different islands. There are exclusions for kayaks, for paddlers and for sailboats under 16' without power. So pretty much none of the AI owners bother with getting tags. But at 19', the TI is different and pushes the limit. If they want to make a federal case against you they can. My general advice (when you own a trailer) is for sure, get the boat registration numbers along with the trailer tags. It gives you unfettered access to all the public boat ramps and FREE parking at the busiest spots. Suppose you don't own a trailer or need one - but if you carry passengers, operate near harbors/ shipping lanes/ military bases or fish outside the 1 mile line, then registration numbers are still the Akamai choice. They generally make it easier to deal with the coast guard, the CG auxiliary weenies, harbormasters, the DLNR, the whale protectors and all the "fun police" patrolling the sand bar... It might even aid in a rescue. So at the very least, boat numbers will get you free parking and a little respect in the heavily monitored areas. (You'll soon find the the TI is an unusual craft and invites a lot of attention). But if you have a private launch and just plan to recreate on the bay, then it's not going to make much difference. In that case, I would not put them on unless they made me. The stickers should work out ok above the waterline, if you alcohol and carefully preheat the hull with a hairdryer and maybe use light heat when applying. Individual lettering tends to rub off, but the stencils should do better. I'd love to check out your launch some time. |

I had stickers made up, cost me $18 for a set of six, two for the hull and four smaller for the amas. He managed to copy the hobie font fairly well and I called my TI "Hobieone"

In Hawaii, if you venture more than a mile off-shore, you have to have a marine radio or a PLB. For that reason we named our ti "Ocean breeze" so radio communication is easier. The name is placed on both sides of the hull starting just behind the rear seat. |

I named my red AI, Rover. I would have used Red Rover, but I used the leftover registration stickers and came up short. I put the name on top of the bow at an angle. Also thought of using Irish Rover. |
