Post subject:  What is the LEGAL person capacity for an AI?

I've searched this forum (and have been viewing it for a couple of years) for an answer to this question but as of yet haven't found ananswer. I have seen many posts relating to carrying passengers on the Ai and, in fact, acople posts about additional seating for passengers. However, the data sticker on my AI shows an icon of a single person plus baggage. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but dosen't that mean that the AI can only legally carry only one person. I'd appreciate anyone, with some official knoledge on the subject, input. Thanks

It might help to know where you are writing from, what country? or even what state?

My understanding of Canadian laws when it comes to small boats like canoe's, kayaks, or boats like the Adventure Island is that you can only earn a ticket or fine if the boat is loaded improperly, or if it's over the manufacturers suggested weight limit. The amount of people that the boat is rated for is simply used as a guideline for users and officers to assess the safe operation of the boat.

I can't find the official wording, but basically, if you properly distribute the weight over the boat, ensure that any passenger does not interfere with the operation of the boat, and remain under the manufacturers weight limit for both gear and passengers, than you won't have a problem, and can't get a ticket.

It's very common to see a canoe, rated for 4 people to be carrying 2 parents and 3 kids in Canada. Our laws seem to be written to address this type of situation.

To be honest, I'm not even sure if my Canadian boats have a "passenger limit" sticker. I believe the European boats are shipped with these because the laws may be different in parts of that continent.

While you may or may not be fined, if someone is injured while your boat has over the recommended number of passengers and you are sued, the onus will be on you to prove that you were not negligent.

Pick up some tramps. Have them all sign a disclaimer. Problem solved.

You may have to establish that they were fully informed of all potential risks and were mentally competent to give informed consent at the time they signed the disclaimer. Of course, all signatures should be witnessed by a notary public :? .
