Has anyone else encountered the latest issues with YouTube? The video encoding has been changed to VP8 rather than H264. My last Hobie video, edited in FCPX, took forever to download and was far too pixelated to be of any use. Apparently it is a common problem and I've yet to find the answers on how to resolve it. If anyone else has worked out how to fix it, please let me know.

I had problems with youtube and safari browser. Then I went to this address: http://www.youtube.com/html5 and click on "leave the HTML5 trial" since then everything is OK

I just posted a video edited through FCPX on the fishing forum and had no problems with it. The video won't play on mobile platforms due to copyright music, but otherwise works great. FYI there was recently a major update to FCPX. Below is a link to the video:

Thanks fellas. I think you're both right. I narrowed it down to a YouTube change and I read that a change in the YouTube address could help. I suppose FCPX made a revision to suit. It was good anyway. I used it as an excuse to try out vimeo for the first time and It went through without a problem. ( the jury is still out )

Thanks again.

snjsanders,
I think I found a way to get around this limit for mobile devices. If you have a google+ account, you can do the following steps:

Then you can get a link to view and share it with mobile devices.

Here's a link to one of my videos, which is also blocked on mobile devices because of copyright.

And here's what happens if I try to open the same video in youtube:

johnnybravo,

Thanks for the great information on how to post the restricted mobile videos. I followed your instructions and it worked great!

Any idea how to post a video on the Hobie forum, from the google account that shows the thumbnail? I tried different ways and was unable.

Thanks, again for the help

It is not the best solution, but you can try the following:

Image

Code:

You just have to keep on your computer this Link:
Code:
https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/------------/hqdefault.jpg

And every time to replace this part "------------" with Video ID

My English is not very good, so I prefer to explain with pictures and videos :)

johnnybravo,

I don' know if I am really dumb, or if you are just really smart... I suspect it is a little of the first and a whole lot of the second. Anyway in my book you are a friggin genius!

Thanks for your help!

Come on snjsanders. Where's my 'pat on the back'. Who started off this thread ??? ( and I haven't understood a word of what you 2 have said ever since )

I've still got issues. Not with Vimeo however, it's working just fine. I find it takes longer to download but I do like the platform and the interaction with other video geeks is excellent. It has movie making tutorials and a forum. The standard of videos is much higher, however if you like videos of cute little cats jumping into the face of toddlers, well I'm afraid you have to go to YouTube.

I have tried the /html5 extension but, alas, still no change. I reinstalled the latest 'Flash' , still the same. I'm now hoping that the upgraded FCPX will solve the issue.
