I'm going to take my TI to Naples, FL for the Thanksgiving weekend and wanted to see if anyone had recommendations for the best place to kayak/sail with the TI.

I like to launch from Lover's Key. Cheap parking ($2 suggested donation), choice of sail conditions (lots of open water inside the barrier islands or go through one of two passes and sail in the Gulf), and even on the busy days, it's not a super busy waterway. There are actually five passes, but two require dismasting and two are quite far.

send me a pm, I'm free for sailing on Saturday.

Cheers,

Have either of you found a place to launch around Pine Island Sound? It looks like a neat area to explore, but it looks like launching from the right spot might make or break the day.

I am in Port Charlotte and I usually sail my TI in Gasparilla Sound and occasionally in Lemon Bay and Stump Pass.

there are three that i have used.

one in cape coral one burnt store rd just north of the corner of pine island and burnt store. it's a city launch ramp, $10 to park or $50 yearly, about 2 miles and one low bridge to open water - some can be sailed, not very busy. accesses matlacha

one on matlacha just past the bridge on the south side of pine island in matlacha. city launch ramp, busy, $10 to park, immediately on open water, low bridge if going north. accesses matlacha. if you car top, launching and parking is free - kayak launch is on east side of park.

one in Bokeelia, stay on main road till it dead ends at restaurant, pay, launch is to the south. rough, private, $10 to launch, about 1 mile to open water - some can be sailed, BUSY. accesses pine island sound

one i haven't tried, north side of pine island rd, private marina about 1 or 2 miles before the bridge. about 1 mile to open water, can be busy
