Do you need any special type of shock cord for the Ama's since I need to replace one of mine.

I asked for some Ama shock cord and my local dealer (only one dealer in my whole Country!) sold me some generic stuff that won't even hold a knot. The cord they sold was 8mm in diameter which was similar to what was on the latest TI in stock, but had less than half the stretch and hence unable to hold knots. The cord was also way thicker than what I already had on my 2011 TI.

I also visited another 3 Marine Chandler stores and most of the shock cord was very slippery in terms of holding knots.

Post subject:  thicker cord

I replaced my TI ama shock cords because the thinner OEM cord stretched so much that the amas would bang into the akas...even when I shortened the cord.
I also had to replace the screw-in anchors to accomodate the thicker cord. The thicker cord takes a stronger pull to attach them to the amas, but the amas don't move up and down on the akas any longer.

if you never remove the amas you can try this mod. it has work out really well for me.

I remember someone mentioning something about lashing the akas instead of using bungee cords. Since I never take my akas off it seemed like a good idea.

I can stand on the aka now and it doesn't move, but I wouldn't recommend doing that on a regular basis. The plastic rings aren't super strong...

cheers,

Found some 7mm shock cord which if I pulled really hard was able to get the knots to lock, had to use pliers and then trim the excess.

I have already got 10 spare pad eyes(need to drill holes) that the previous owner gave me in preparation for installing double shock cord. Does anyone see a problem with using a double stainless steel hog ring for the redundant second cord attached to the pad eye. It can be washed down after each trip and inspected unlike a hog ring installed in the shock cord plug in the Ama. The stainless steel clinch pins are used on Hobie Cat Trampolines - see link below:
