So we have monitor lizards in Florida and Pythons both not native and of course we have coyotes. So I think we need to know about the snakes and spiders. My understanding is all down under snakes are poisonous? we have some bad spiders

Funnelweb spider - fortunately anti-venine is readily available, so there have been fewer recent deaths

Redback spider, not as dangerous but still worth avoiding

I believe Australia has about 7 of the world's top 10 dangerous snakes too.

I am 67, and I have seen 3 redbacks, 2 funnelwebs, 3 sharks and no poisonous snakes in my life, so it is not as scary as it might sound

but we love it here, so don't let me put you off!

I think I am understanding why you like hammocks so much

Trouble is bosab, none of them seem to have any problem climbing either. That's where the goanna lives so I'm just waiting for the day when he wakes up earlier than me and comes down for breakfast only to be confused by this hammock cutting off his path.

The last camp I went on, I used the hammock and because of the misty rain I pushed everything like cooking gear, food, clothes etc in underneath. In the middle of the night, I heard this possum, who lived in the tree I tied up to, come down and when he got to the hammock rope, he jumped to the ground and then decided to get into the gear an inch from my bum, and root around for a bit of a feed. Pretty funny at the time. Luckily they are harmless, although you don't really want to corner one.

Yeah, I used to think those full-sized (as opposed to the tiny ring-tailed ones) possums were cute, until two had a serious fight right next to my car. Now I know where the expression "fur-flying" comes from

Has anyone told them about the Drop Bears?
Thats what we really fear while out there.
Actually Australia has the top 12 most poisonous snakes. Couldn't care less, the Drop Bears scare me though...

Hey Tony, not sure where you have grown up or how good your eyesight is but if that is all the 'wildlife' you've seen in 67 years you have done very well.

Did the Forster to Blackhead trip happen?
