Hi CoachStevo - my Hakas are mounted using starports as a pivoting point but the actual weight of the haka and any load on them is carried almost entirely by the Akas, just like any other hakas. I use the starports with a Railblaza rotating platform to allow the hakas to remain in place while folding the amas in. Consequently there is little stress on the railblaza mounts. That sort of light on a pole is perfectly suited to a kayak, but we Island owners have got a much more suitable platform for a high visibility all-round light - the top of the mast! I also dare say that rigging up a removable masthead light will be considerably cheaper than the Railblaza items  With a thin halyard fitted to the mast, I can attach the light and send it to the top, where it also lights up my wind indicator arrow, and the sail can be furled as required without interfering with the light. The halyard also gives the collateral bonus of showing how much the mast bends (up to around 6 inches actually!) |

That's a nice addition. A red/green side nav light(s) would still be required on most boats, and a clear stern light. The new red/green combo light is what I was thinking about. The poles would place them at the same height as a 17" whaler. Pretty cool. On my AI, everything's optional round here. Just shining a good lamp into the sail is a great way of getting attention too, if you get delayed returning to port, and you're not rigged for anything else. |

We are fortunate here in that we only need an all-round white light on an Island here, but I can see how having a tri-colour on a Railblaza pole would be far better than nav-lights at deck level (virtually invisible from a distance) |
