That's actually where the problem down here in Florida lies. just about every other afternoon the wind literally stops blowing altogether, just still air and if you happen to be 5-10 miles from launch it's a long paddle/peddle home especially if against the current. Then to make matters worse on the odd days in summer we get sudden storms in the afternoon that come up with little to no notice. It's actually funny that we can get a inch of rain, then an hour later it's sunny and clear again.
I for one am unable to pedal fast enough against the current in any of the local passes to get back in when the current is the wrong way. I have heard the current in the passes over on the Florida east coast are even worse. I am just more comfortable having my 20 lb gas emergency motor along for the ride, I don't need or use it very often (I think I've ran about 5-6 gallons of fuel thru it in 3+ yrs), but am always more comfortable knowing it's there to get me home if needed. But then again that's just me, and my personal preferences.

Bob, in my pond the issue is usually "too much" wind and the ones we have are predictable enough to plan our trips.

And we don't encounter those mud-sucking tides the way you folks do.

I hate's the smell of gas, but in your shoes, I would certainly give the motor some real hard thought.

You can order a replacement propeller here ( http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/Tohats ... (All_Years)_Propellers/659/?cart_id=024317815 ). I think the Solas plastic prop was around $15 bucks. They are cheap enough, just buy both, and try them out, then use the other as a spare.

This prop will come with a 12mm shaft hole, and for some reason the Island Hopper has a 1/2 inch prop shaft, I just used a 1/2" reamer and reamed the hole out to make it work (wasn't hard to do, just make sure to keep the hole straight).

The propeller type is called a standard pin type prop, same exact prop is used on most small gas motors (Tohatsu, Nissan, Merc, etc). Due to there being no creativity whatsoever in the small outboard industry.

Like I said I ordered a 7 inch pitch and put it on, the problem I now have is the 2 hp motor itself can no longer get to full RPM (not enough horsepower) to drive that high pitch prop at full RPM.

With the throttle locked my fully load TI goes around 5-6 mph (the throttle is not at full) with the 7 inch prop. The 7 inch pitch prop was on the motor when this video was shot on the forum thread Motor Sailing the TI ( viewtopic.php?f=71&t=44837

Hope this helps you
Bob
