Don't laugh, but did you know that wsithout a rudder, you can most easily paddle a TI backwards? Try and be surprised!

Done that a few times trying to get out of a dock - but steering was a bit difficult

That is the point, you need to have the rudder raised, so the natural stability of the hull (while going backwards) is not upset by the rudder blade. Weird eh...

I've peddled backwards a few times and on the last trip to Tasmania, that little trick of quickly turning the mirage drive around, saved some damage to the hull for sure.

Try putting one Mirage drive in backwards on a TI. That's what my wife and I did a few weeks ago. When we pushed off from the dock, we went nowhere fast, with both of us pedaling furiously. Doh!

I was onc racing my old yacht when a gust of 55 knots arrived (some gust!). The airborne spray was so vicious (and painful!) that the only way I could steer was by looking backwards, keeping the wake straight. Luckily one of the other crew warned me in time before we sailed into the broken mast of our competitor!
