Post subject:  Harken Cam Cleat repair?

This weekend I had one of my Harken Cam Cleats pull right out of the cross brace. I did not pull up very hard to release the line, but the cam cleat pulled clean out of the cross brace. The stainless bolts were not damaged nor bent. The cleat popped right into my lap! The tapped holes seem to have been drilled too large, so finally the bolts pulled right out.
I am going to move the cleat over and drill two new holes...
Does anyone know what is the required drill size I will need for the tapped holes?
Are the stainless bolts self tapping in aluminum or will I have to tap threads in the holes? If so what is the recommended tap diameter and screw pitch?

I have had several Islands and a Tandem and never did a cleat pop out before.

I think they are 6-32 and need to be tapped

Maybe try going up one size in bolts? Just be sure to cut or choose the length correctly if using V2 aka's.

Bob, i don't think anything bigger will fit though the cam cleat.

I've used a size larger in one of mine (non-Hobie related) but it may not be the exact same cleat as yours.
