Just so many places bicx.
The distance can be a hold up e.g. 3 days of 12 hour driving to get to the Whitsundays.
But fortunately, plenty of close places http://www.hobiecat.com.au/bb/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=756

Hi Brian
Thanks for your tip on Lake Tinaroo. We have been here for 3 days and it is a spectacular spot. We are staying at Tinnaburra just out of Yungaburra. Caravan Park right on the lake, sites overlooking the water.

Have sailed Cape Tribulation, Airlie Beach, Elliott Heads so far and we are heading to Mission Beach tomorrow. Starting to head back south to Brisbane.

We are hoping to take off in late Jan and be in South Australia for Feb. Would really appreciate your tips on where to stay(caravan parks or free camps) that we could sail the TI from.

Cheers Lonnie

I'm not talking to you Lonnie.
I'm just so jealous as I can see you sailing away at all those places.

Maybe not talking is a bit mean.
What I will do, is put together some South Australia information.
I'll then post it here for anyone venturing to SA.

Hi Lonnie & others.
As we have lost our Australian Hobie site :( I have posted my list of favourite spots here -
Board index » Hobie Islands » Clubs, Social and Events, Excursions / Camping, Racing » Australia

I'm hoping this will be viewed my more Australians and not clutter for our friends in the US who
aren't game to sail their Islands over here.

I thought if I did it that way it would keep away a few South Welshman.
Not that I wanted a war

Glad you are enjoying it Lonnie.
I was in Port Fairy Victoria for the weekend and caught up with a wooden boat builder friend who has nearly finished a spec boat. I just drooled over the timber work and I would have swapped the TI but there was about a $75k shortfall.

This weekend we are sailing to the top of the Spencer Gulf from Port Augusta with some non Hobie kayakers.
Send me a PM if you are going to be up that way.

This is looking North from the lookout.

Hi Lonnie and all the other Ausies on the forum, how are things going with your travels.

I was made redundant early this year, so the wife and I took off for a big 4x4 trip around the country. Unfortunately we did not manage to take the TI with us as we have been living in a roof top camper so could not fit the TI on the roof.

Been back in Perth about five weeks now, I'm only just getting back to see what is going on with the forum.

Hope you are all still getting out there in the Hobie's I have to dust off the cobwebs and get my TI out soon.

Hi Geordie and others.
Glad to see you back in the right seat.

Would you believe I had to swap my TI for one of those very ordinary kayaks? :(

Only temporary of course, at Blanchetown on the River Murray and I was determined to explore the
backwaters, such prolific bird life. The creek feeding the backwaters is shallow and narrow with trees fallen across. The worst one was 3 inches out of the water but with a fast run up and some pushing and shoving, we
made it across. The serenity in the backwaters is amazing but glad to get back in the TI.

This is the track from our camp site.

Cool Brian. I have mostly spent time further up river from there, my wife is from Berri. We have done a few trips on house boats from Berri and from Renmark, up stream to Customs House and the border. I like all the little backwaters and creeks north of Renmark. Also on our recent trip around Australia we followed the Murray down from near Kosciusko National Park and camped at numerous spots down to Mildura, sadly we didn't have a kayak so could only sit on the bank and watch the river go slowly by.

This is the only way I travel these days.
Since the photo I have installed an electric winch.
Unlike FE I load the TI with amas attached.
Must go West one day.

That looks great Brian, I'd love to see more photos or a vid of the winch setup...
