I just bought a demo 2015 tandem island from a local dealer who best goes unnamed because they are clueless about Islands. They did not keep all the parts to this boat together and it has taken a long time for them to locate the right parts in their warehouse. They just found a TI mast after initially giving me an AI mast and sail. But now I can't get the TI mast to go down far enough to engage the lockdown (the AI mast would lock). The bottom of the mast receiver looks clean, as does the hole for the pin in the bottom of the mast, though that hole looks very shallow to me -- half as deep as the pin hole on the bottom of our 2010 AI mast. I would appreciate any ideas since I'm not getting any help from the dealer.

If you could post pictures we might be able to help a little.

Either something in the mast-cup is stopping it from seating all the way down or possibly the mast-spool has moved up (every so often some of us get masts that the spool didn't have enough epoxy to hold). All TI masts should be the same size & layout.

Thanks much for the responses. The pictures I took don't really show much, so I did not post. I really think the problem is that for some strange reason the hole in the bottom of the mast that receives the pin is very shallow -- about 1/3 inch deep vs nearly an inch in my 2010 Ai mast. This keeps the mast from seating low enough to engage the lock. I took a piece of rod about the diameter of the hole and banged it until the hole got a bit deeper. Now the lock engages. Caveman solution.
