Post subject:  TI Weight Breakdown

Does anyone have the weight breakdown(or know where to get) of the Tandem Island Parts? Reason for asking is that I will be storing my TI using a 200 lb capacity harken hoister and need to know how much additional capacity I have to utilize for the bunk. Yes, looking to store the bunk along with the kayak from the ceiling.

Breakdown needed:
1.) Kayak
2.) Single Ama
3.) Mast
4.) Single Mirage Drive
5.) Single Aka
6.) ...seat and paddle are minimal

Thanks in advance

Easiest wy I know to figure this out is go get your bathroom scale, go stand on it, with each item the subtract your weight ( that's what I would do). I believe Hobie states the weight of everything in their literature as well, but I'm sure weight varies from hull to hull, your much better working with the actual weight you have vs published numbers. I have a feeling you will be exceeding the 200 lbs (I'm just sayin)

What is a bunk in this context?

The bathroom scale option was my last resort. I might break it if I stand on the scale with the kayak.

The "bunk" will be a 4x8 cradle (2 - 2x4s with cross members) or 2" pvc pipe. I am open to options for supporting the kayak. I want to keep it stored right side up during kayaking season, then turn it upside down for off-season storage. It needs to be upright to reduce the loading time onto my trailer(modified Harbor Freight trailer).

You could hoist it complete if your rack holds 200lbs – if you want to remove weight – the drives weigh about 7lbs ea – that alone would get you under but 24lbs of max capacity which is plenty to account for the weight of the cradles which weigh only a few lbs

I don’t have weights for amas individually – but both together including the mast and sail account for 52 lbs – so you could pretty much say they each weigh 1/3 of that figure (I got that number taking fully rigged weight – and subtracting out the 2 mirage drives – I’m left with 52 lbs – and I’d guess they each weight about equal to each other.

Perhaps someone in the forum will have access to a scale and give you more detailed specs.

Fitted Hull Weight*
• 124 lbs
• 56.25 kg
Fully Rigged Weight*
• 190 lbs
• 86.18 kg

I presume fitted hull weight is kayak, 2 amas and 4 akas?

I weighed the amas at 23 lbs each, sail at 13 and each aka at 3.5 lbs each. All akas plus tramps are 20.2

fitted is just the bare hull with permanent hardware attached, like crossbars, mast receiver, blocks, bungees, etc. Does not include the drives, I think.
