If the bearings go at sea will you still be able too peddle the unit? And I guess the bearings will only have so much life in them, will they be fully sealed bearings or servicable ones, my guess full sealed? Bearings will imo make the peddling experience much nicer but they are just more things to go wrong in my book, combine bearings and saltwater was this really a wise move? taking into account most boat trailers need bearings changed annually and they aren't in the water for more than a few minutes a time!

Perhaps they're delrin or similar type bearings.

Just what I was wondering, but what ever they are made of, delrin, ceramic, stainless steel, or gold infused titanium  ... I imagine they will be well sealed and, I trust, able to stand up to the ware.

What ever material they are, bearings will wear. I'm sure if the Mirage Drives are well maintained, all will be good.

I will find out in another 3 months, and I still have all my spare parts for the V2's.

If sh&ts are trumps, I shall replace them with the older ones.

I am confident the new drives will be great, and I'm interested on seeing how much less effort it takes to operate them.

I need new cradles for the new yak trailer though.

There's allways something more to buy.

Can't wait for the new boat.

XD.

I'll take a bet that they aren't sealed at all...maybe ceramic or delrin loose...even the hard core ceramic sealed bearings on our cyclocross bikes get rusted shells after a season, and they aren't immersed in water the whole time.
So I'm betting for loose balls in a plastic shell.

I suspect like most bearings you won't even notice and if you do, you will have plenty of notice. Its not a High speed, high temp device. Bicycles are ridden with dodgy bearings for years and years all the time. Stop worrying and go sailing.

The updated drive utilizes plastic roller bearings in all the moving parts to reduce friction and result an easier pedaling. Hobie claims a 10% increase in efficiency. Hope this helps. 8)

Most boat trailer bearings need changing annually?

Honestly, I have never changed any ever. How about others here?
