Chris,
I only ripped the 100x50mm RHS diagonally so I could get up/down our very steep driveway without scraping. I didn't have the cantilevered extension for the AI, but it does give better support and makes loading easier. You don't need metal working skills to add the 50x50mm RHS cantilever. Just a hacksaw to cut the length of tube in half and u-bolts for attachment.

Stringy, that top eBay one is the same as my trailer. There is a company selling these on a sort of franchise basis. As a seller sells more volume, they become a dealer, then a distributor. The guy I bought mine from was on the brink of becoming a distributor (which entails better pricing plus spares inventory etc). Mine cost my $1000 including upgrade to 13" wheels plus a winch. So far so good, but my seller went bust :(

Ah, I know how to use a hacksaw! I've got a pretty steep driveway too now. I guess time will tell if that's going to be an issue.
@Tony: Didn't you get your trailer modified?

Well sorta. The standard model was called a "12 foot tinnie" model. The dealer fitted a drawbar extension at the rear, cross members for the Hobie cradles I supplied him, 13 inch wheels, rollers front and back, jockey wheel and winch, all for the standard price of $1,000. He later adjusted the cradle spacing to get the best fit on the TI hull once I took delivery of it.

You can just make out the extension join behind the frame. Presumably in tinnie mode, the rectangular "suspension frame" gets positioned closer to the front. The extension consists of a smaller square section inserted in both pieces and then through-bolted.

That's interesting Tony. You've been happy enough with it?

Hi guys sorry I forgot about this thread. I'm considering a trailer Hobie Sunstate QLD supply . They're 2000 bucks, have you guys seen one are they worth the premium price?

Oops! Missed your post Stringy due to my "holiday" in hospital. I am very happy with my trailer, alhough I think I need to touch up a few rusty bits. Still, not too bad for getting on to three years.

Actually it's important to note here that Hobie Island Purists are all car toppers.

Just kidding. Don't lynch me

I did hear that John Wayne car topped.

Tony, that seems a bargain for that trailer you picked up...

Part of the joy of kayaking is that I can chuck the thing onto my car and off I go.

Don't need to worry about towing, storing, registering, insuring, etc. My A.I. is JUST
car-toppable, but it can be an awkward exercise. I can see that with a T.I. and the
2015 A.I. it becomes even more of an issue. Some places I go to would be difficult
to access with a trailer in tow. I'm of the opinion that if I need to 'upgrade' to a
trailer, then I may as well upgrade the entire shebang - get a power-boat of a proper
sailer like a Wave, of similar.

I that makes me a 'purist' then - although I don't think much of John Wayne (or Chuckie!) :-)

I wish Hobie would bring out a smaller version of the A.I., (around the size of the Revo 13)
that can easily be car-topped. I'd have one...

Cheers,

Mike.

I picked this Jet Ski trailer up on eBay for $600. It's in pretty good condition and I've bought a roof pod to go on the stainless overhead rack.

I'm in the process of making it longer with extension frames front and rear for the TI I will buy when the 2015 version gets to Australia.

Good score Brad, yeah you will need a extension frame at the rear, but, see if you can get away with just a longer draw bar at the front. It will save a bit of work if you can. (it's a bit hard to tell from an image.)
XD.

Hi XD

Yeah I had already made an extended drawbar but once I started on the rear frame I realised I have made it too short.

Anyway I'll get the rear frame finished then make another one :?
