Coolers For TI

Anybody have any recommendations on a good cooler that will fit behind the rear seat on a TI? Preferably one that is easily accessible while underway and doesn't block the rear twist and seal hatch. Need to be able to carry drinks (adult and kids), sandwiches, snacks, etc. for a family of 5. Thanks!

Thats tough on a TI because the rear tank well is so small compared to the AI. Just one of the rare downsides to the tandem in order to allow enough room for 2 people.

Whatever you do, go with a soft cooler. :Then the fit doesn't have to be exact.

I've also found that there is a bit of room forward of the Mirage Drive in both cockpits. It's possible to use 2 smaller coolers situated one each in that small amount of area, than 1 larger one stuffed into the tankwell. Just an idea you might want to try.

Here is one option that looks viable. I don't necessarily need the rod holders since I'm not a big fisherman, but all the little pockets might be nice. From the reviews it looks like folks just put a milk crate inside for additional stability.

I often carry a cheap Styrofoam cooler in the rear and sometimes a 2nd on the tramp (for bait if fishing). It works fine and is cheap enough to try to see if it fits your needs. The bungee holds it and the lid down

I use a similar soft cooler in my Revo 13 and will probably use it on the TI too. I put frozen water bottles in it instead of ice. I stow it in the front hatch or behind the seat clipped on with a carabiner or two. In the hatch, the soft cooler helps keep things from rolling around. When I go ashore for lunch it's easy to carry the soft cooler wading through water and the extra pockets are great for the phone or other small stuff. The soft cooler also makes it easy to carry another bag on the same arm. I use the frozen water bottles a lot in coolers but if you want your Fosters to be ice cold it helps to add some ice. The water I drink lightens my load and the rest just go back in the freezer when I get home.

I'll second the frozen water bottles here in Costa Rica, in fact, I use cranberry juice bottles for even bigger containers. With the Coleman 36 Qt cooler, two of them with frozen water will last a whole day down here in the heat. What I like about the Coleman cooler is that it has a spout at the bottom to drain the cooler with as water builds up from condensation. Nice on the AI, but I'm thinking of using it with the TI, by strapping the cooler to a Haka. Does a hard cooler ride well out on a Haka??
I like the soft coolers too, but down here it's just too hot for them to hold cold for an entire day.

A Yeti Roadie cooler is my second choice for extended trips or in combination with the soft cooler.
They are built like a tank and have great tie down points. It fits behind the seat on my Revo 13 but I haven't tried it on the TI yet. They are heavy and expensive but keep things very cold, especially if you pre-cool them as recommended. I picked up a secondhand one after using a larger one a few times. You have to be careful about selecting the appropriate size cooler if other than the Roadie. I have talked to a few people that wish they had bought a bigger one. The wall thickness reduces the internal volume quite a bit.

I've always been impressed with the yeti coolers. A couple of things though...
1) I don't know if they make one that would fit on the rear of a TI. (If I had hakas I guess I could strap it to one)
2) They are a little out of my price point.

I think it's easier to find a used Yeti here because there are a lot of dealers. The guys that started the company are from this area.
I have seen Roadies for $150 on craigslist. I'll know soon if mine fits on the TI. Maybe on a haka as you said.
