Lowrance 5HDI. I found the 4 to be too small. Thought the 7 might be a bit on the bulky side.

I have an Elite 4 (GPS), can't get them anymore, they're spot on for my work. I think the 7 is too big for an AI. Sometimes less is more in these cases. The 5 is probably as big as I would go on an AI. It depends on how you fish too. The HDI 4 I think is ok as it has much of a less profile, but, to each their own. I had a Humminbird Matrix 27 on my first hull and found it to be too big (same size as the HDI 5).

If your trolling all I do is watch the surface and birds, find the bait fish and your sweet. If I was bait fishing I'd stay glued to the fish finder and sound them out, marking each interesting reef. I also go to a reef if there is no action, structure is your friend in these cases.

Live baiting I like to sound out the bait schools and drop the slimy on the edge of them, ALWAYS exciting stuff.

XD

I have an Elite 5 CHIRP sitting beside me waiting for the TI... Went to Bass Pro and looked at their display. I wanted something I could easily read the overlay numbers (speed and depth) from across the boat (sitting in back or hiked out).

The 4 might have been fine but they limited the overlay size for some reason, it wouldn't fill the screen width whereas the 5 does and the numbers are HUGE - easy to read from 15 feet away! I had initially considered getting a 7 but its overall size looked too big for the TI, I thought it might be in my way when moving around.

Raymarin dragonfly 5 for me. I just moved it over from the old boat, which took all of 10 minutes with the new scupper 'ducer setuo

The Elite 5 series hits the sweet spot in terms of features, size and power draw. HDI or Chirp are both great, but the latter is superior

Hopefully the Hobie sailing yaks will be offered in a blue colour.

I don't really worry about visibility on the water (I have an ivory dune A.I.). M

Most smaller sailing boats don't come in brighter colours (ie: yellow) and I don't think it has any affect on whether (or not) they get run over by power-boaters.

I think a 4m mast and sail helps much more in making an A.I./T.I. more visible while on the water.

Mike.
