I use my TI only for fishing and diving - always in trimaran sail mode. For me the TI is a small sail boat - not a kayak.

Thanks Totch, but maybe you should broaden your reading a bit more!
Seriously though, I am very fortunate to be able to do this. For 12 years I had a 2hour train commute, then I got shifted closer to home and had a 1hour train trip. Then I got shifted only 12 kms from home, so now I bike ride on day shifts and kayak on night shifts, all year round.
I reckon the Hobie is the best kayak for this. No matter what the weather the awesome Miragedrive gets me through. 30 knot winds are no problem ...in fact I've come to enjoy it when it gets really rough. The stripped down AI hull is brilliant in pretty much anything. And most mornings when it's calm and glassy, out comes the paddle for a relaxing just over 5km paddle home.

Sounds like a great workout, Stringy. Good for you!

Keith

, under what circumstances would you do that?

kayaking with others that don't have an AI, using the AI in outrigger when there is little wind, certain fishing situations outrigger is better, using it in outrigger because its fun. There are lots of reasons for outrigger mode I've listed only a few

Just paddle when I have to. When going to and from landing places. When going in waters whith lots of stones and obsticles, very narrow waters. Using Mirage Drive in no wind conditions and for helping up sailing speed. Use as kayak when in groups with ordinary sea kayaks. Kayak mode also in lakes and small streams/rivers. When racing (long distances) always kayak mode. All training/exercising will be in kayak mode.

Touring trips will be in trimaran mode. I go from 1 week to 3 weeks. So therefore most time in trimaran mode.
Most occasions will be kayak mode.

So 60-80 % in trimaran mode and the rest in kayak mode. That means time.
