All,
I fought a loosing battle a few weeks ago with one of my hatches, and so I'm interested to hear what lubricant others use on their 8" hatch seals to keep them opening and closing smoothly. I've been using silicone grease, but it does of course attract sand....!
I've heard that furniture polish can work?

So how do others keep the hatches working smoothly?

Colin

Silicone grease is it and has worked for me. It doesn't damage the gasket over time. All you need is a very light coating done regularly or when you begin to notice issues. Stay out of the sand, or try to avoid getting it on top of the kayak. Spray the hatches off with a hose, gasket included, remove all grit, if any.

CR Yaker's advice is spot on. Here is a link to Danco's available at Home Depot in the US.

Thanks guys. Other than the sand you've confirmed my thinking. Silicone grease is the way to go.
