Post subject:  I got rubber pads, not carpet, with my 2015 AI Cradles.
Having just read a Thread where the owner said his 2015 TI was "Hard to push off the cradles, it had Rubber Pads not carpet".

As I have not put the cradles on the trailer yet I am wondering if I should go buy some pool carpet or something to fit the Cradles as I am always launching alone and don't need anything that makes it harder to get the AI on/off the Hobie trailer.

Any viewpoints on this matter?

My '14 TI came with carpeted cradles. When dry it was very difficult to move, slightly better when wet. I purchased a trailer winch to help. Afterwards, I installed indoor/outdoor carpet. Now when dry the TI moves with very little effort, when wet it will almost slide off the trailer unassisted. The winch really isn't necessary.

Hmmm my '15 TI came with the rubber padded cradles. Very difficult to move the boat on and off even with two people. Might look at gluing some indoor outdoor carpet on.

Certainly I have never had a problem, wet or dry, pulling/pushing my 2008 AI on the Black Carpet lined cradles on the Hobie trailer so far.
However the Rubber Pads support the hull and ama on the sides/bottom rather than the just the bottom of those parts resting on the botoom of the cradle with only a thin layer of carpet between.

I cant help thinking that if Hobie issued 2015 Cradles with rubber Pads instead of carpet there must be a reason for it.

Have either of you guys applied the Hobie Protectorant, or similar on the hull?
I notice my Revo 15/16 I treated is pretty slippery now when car-topping, maybe some on the AI cradle Rubber Pads would be an idea?
I havent had an opportunity to float my new AI yet otherwise I would know.

OK Matt you are the parts guy, any particular reason the 2015 Cradles have Pads not Carpet?

Not saying there is anything wrong with pads but would like to know why this decision was made.

2015 AI cradles have carpet. I can only assume that you have the incorrect (older version) set.

Uhoh, I specifically asked the dealer if the cradles I was being supplied were for the 2015 AI and she assured me they were.

As I am in Chemotherapy ATM I have not installed them on the Hobie trailer yet, (replacing my 2008 AI cradles), so have not had the opportunity to discover any problems with them.

There is another Thread somewhere where a new 2015 TI owner received Pads instead of Carpet and is using it that way, (with some difficulty), which has added to the confusion.

Still got the box here with the cradles in it, it says "Cradles for Mirage Adventure Island" PART No 72020400.

Is this correct for a 2015 AI?

72020400 CRADLE SET - ADV ISL <=2014 TR

72020406 CRADLE SET - ADV ISLD 2015+

The new AI is a different hull shape.

As far as carpet vs pads...

Carpet holds water and sand. The pads are cleaner and hold the boat in position on the trailer better... Carpet slips easier and is easier to load if not wet. 6 of one... half dozen of the other sort of thing.

Umm no, I see the part Num should be 72020406 as per you're supplied Link.

Owell, calling the ex-hobie-dealer this morn and see what they can do.

Try some silicon like the Hobie protectorant, or anything similar directly on the pads Tom, it sounds like Pads are quite good at supporting the hull if you overcome the extra grunt to push the AI off/on?

I know what you guys mean about the pads. I built a cart out of Hobie cradles for my TI and have it mounted behind the pvc bunks on the trailer. Sometimes I launch right off of the trailer without using the cart and it makes a huge difference in friction having to slide over the cart. When I use the cart it's very convenient having it back there because I just pull the boat out to the rear drive well and strap the cart on when unloading or drop it off there when reloading. I'm thinking that I may store the cart elsewhere on the trailer and only set it in place when I intend to use it because single handed loading/unloading directly into the water is so much easier without having to drag across it. Or maybe just change to indoor/outdoor carpet on the cart.
