The older original AI's (2007-2010) were a bit lighter and easier to move/store with the twist-n-stow rudder that folded flat. The smaller rudder pins did break far more often, but with practice easy enough to change out on the water.
The newer original AI's (2011-2014) have the same large rudder that the newer AI & TI have. Seems to point a little higher and the rudder has more authority. Actually more rudder than the boat needs most of the time, and we love it.
Both original AI's are lower to the water so you will be sitting in a little puddle, with your heels in another little puddle when not on the drive pedals. They are noticeably lighter than the newer AI's (2015- ) and TI's, so easier to car-top or drag up a beach.
The new AI's (we call AI2 thanks to Keith), is wonderful! In my opinion, perfectly balanced, as fast as the TI, and all around bigger, stronger more of everything we liked, but also much heavier. It's my choice boat, but I know like the TI, it can be a pain to handle on land, but worth it when it's on the water.
With all that said, as long as they are priced right, I'd buy any one of them, and any of them with some prep, mods and practice can overcome most of their differences.
The only difference that may be harder to overcome is if you have the older and especially the oldest original AI but sail with others with TI's or AI2. They will leave you behind. With the size lake you are talking, I don't think you will have that problem.
Good luck, and enjoy whatever one you choose.
