Sounds Great!

Any pictures?

When will kit be available?

Once kit is installed I assume the original up/down handle will no longer funtion - as its lines I suppose are removed?

Sounds like a "must-do" upgrade for us Island sailing freaks

Kits should be available now.

Yes, the handle gets removed. They really do work well.

I posted a how to upgrade from original pull up rudder to twist-n-stow rudder here:
http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=8125
For those not wanting to go to the trouble of the new AI kit it may be worth a try referencing the above thread but changing the lock down line.
Just attach the newer lock down line to the original lock down line on the AI the same way I have done to the pull up line. Lock it off with the cleat when positive lock down is needed and release it when you want to pull it up. Seems to me the result is the same.

On the AI you wouldn't need the extra pull up line as in pic above-just the extra lock down line. When tension is released from extra lock down line the twist-n-stow would work as usual.
Not sure if this is clear???

Ahhrg.........I just bought my AI last week when I was in Pinellas Park visiting. I took it with me to NW Florida about 8 hours away. If I'm eligible for the free upgrade (I hope so) does it have to go back to the same dealer for installation or can I use one around my neck of the woods?

Great boat by the way!

What is that cut off date. Also what is the $. I'am not sure about drilling extra holes. The up/down is hard to operate... feels when pressured it will break the line...So I have been up/down manual. The directions are mostly clear. Wish the dealers could be counted on to install these type of products...when contacted they know less that I have been reading about.
What dealer are you using in the delta? Also have you checked out sailboard forum concerning the angry fisherman in your region of launch and sail? I'ts a long read but worth it since it's your area...Sorry I had to pass on the AI 10/13th day my betterhalf is still paddling...The wind was not blowing that day but the predictions were mixed..so we stayed around
and went to a lower Folsom...which we had not been to so it was ok...
Did I read a post from a dealer selling Hobies of all types in Rancho Cordova area...off Sunrise Blvd... Gold Run ... he may have visted with you on the 13th sail day...but not CA Canoe& Kayak.. they are slow... not easy to deal with...Got mixed reviews for them cause they shut down during the Eppies race day excluding other customers..So ended up with a dealer in Grass Valley....There is another dealer adventure Sports with a second store near the American River....Still seeking a dealer proficent with AI repairs..Got a suggestion

From Matt Miller's post:

Older Model Adventure and Adventure Island Kit -# 81391002 RUDDER UP/DOWN LINE SYSTEM '07 $65.00 List
This will upgrade older boats (built prior to July 19th 2007 #4873 and earlier) to the 2008 rudder up/down control system. We are not offering this as a free upgrade. This is strictly an optional upgrade.

Our serial numbers are in the 4700's

Inland Sailing in Rancho Cordova. Todd Craig (he's a member and contributor on this forum) used to be the manager there. Yes, Todd and his wife Barbara came to the gathering of Islands here on the 13th.

Didn't see that. I'll have to check it out. I've never had any problems with fishermen but I try to avoid them. When I need to share some beach space with them I always ask in a friendly way when I approach the shore.

Fishermen tend be a frustrated lot in general.

Kepra, I have no fear of drilling holes. I'll be installing my own upgrade kits when they come in. If you don't mind driving down to Rio Vista I'd be happy to help you install yours.

Well thanks you guys.. I will visit Inland for next AI. As I called today ordering the lift retofit the dealer in Grassy Valley did volunteer to install.
Thanks for the help Rio-d. I hope to get additional boat next summer. Wife likes to paddle... limits distance she travels..While the sail increases.
Not sure I'll be able to get her to go along. Since AI this season..I have not paddled, rafted, canoe, biked, or hiked.. we did ride horses at poker ride. Every weekend to the various lakes car-toppping. So a trailer may be first..
