Hello everyone! My name is Miles Moore and I live in the Coeur d'Alene Idaho/Spokane WA. area. We just finished our winter Hobie Island Frozen Buns Regatta. It was a big hit.

I believe we have developed a way to handle the Island sailing or pedaling options during a regatta. We have developed 2 divisions at our regatta. Division 1 is sail power only and division 2 is pedal and sail power. If you are in a race and then decide to pedal then you automatically end up in division 2 for the rest of the regatta. We find this works best because there are some that just want to sail and some that are old or have a disAbility that just can't compete with the fit young Island skippers. Also in the starting sequence you can pedal until the 1 minute gun before the start if you are in the sail only division.

Go to www.sailcda.com and click on the Hobie Club link and you will see some beutiful pictures of the event in the news letter section.

In Aug. we are having a big N. American Hobie Island Challange in a remote location (Swan Lake, ID.). I will post info about this event on this forum soon. In June we are having a Hobie distance race for both Hobie cats and Islands.

I just heard about the Island Nationals and wish I could attend but unfortunately its planned during the same time that that boat show season is running Pacific NW.

Sorry I did not post a picture of the event but I have not learned how to post a picture yet.

Hi Sailmarine,

I love that lake. I've been to Coeur d'Alene for a Chief Architect user group convention at the beautiful hotel on the lake a few years ago and since I've had my AI, I've wanted to take it back out there on a big westward trek sailing on many of the reservoirs and glacial lakes all over The West. I think the Chief convention usually happens at the end of August so maybe I'll have two good reasons to trek out there again this August for the N. American Hobie Island Challenge you mentioned.

FYI, here's my user's gallery page on Coeur d'Alene's own Chief Architect website: http://www.chiefarchitect.com/usercenter/gallery/duffe.html

Denizen I hope you can make it but remember the event is in a remote location so bring your tent and port-a-poty...

Ok here is my first attempt at posting a picture in this forum from my recent Island regatta:

Can you give us some more info on the June Event? I would love to plan a trip out.

Also on the Idea for two classes, what about a class for people who would like to pedal through the tacks only, but not the rest of the time. Perhaps you could put a counter on the pedals and add time for every stroke.

Hummm... how could we rig that?

Does it count as pedaling if you move your fins from vertical (extra lateral resistance) when on a reach, to flush against the hull when running?

Is there anywhere on the lake you can rent AI's? I am going to a wedding there in June and have always wanted to try one. Also I am bringing my getaway with me and was wondering if I could leave the boat on the beach on the school grounds right where they rent waves for a couple of days.
