Post subject:  Wheel Eeez Wheels for the AI

For anyone who is interested, Wheel Eeez is now making a wheel out of polyurethane rather than pvc. It's a bit tougher material and I'm hoping it won't cut up so badly on the barnacles. I've found you can only repair the pvc wheels so much.
The beach I launch on is sand, then small rock 1-4" and when the tide is real low, we've got barnacles. Wicked for the bottom of the AI. I've restricted myself from sailing when the tide is low, or when I know the tide will be low around the time I should return to the beach, because my pvc wheels are hopless. I'm keeping my fingers crossed these new wheels made with polyurethane will hold out longer than the ones made from pvc. Aprox. $100.

I have the silver balloon type on mine and they`re great over sand-only problem is they puncture easily on broken shells. I think Wheel-eez also makes sponge filled tires...thats the way to go. They dont fit Hobies cart though.

Post subject:  standard cart cannot be upgraded to Trax wheels

In some situations the standard cart was giving me problems digging into gravel or sand so I recently ordered two of the silver "trax' wheels and discovered that they do not fit on the standard cart!

Even the Hobie dealer did not realize that the standard cart and the Trax cart have different axles on them. They seem identical by just looking at them but the standard cart uses a hole in the end of the axle for pins while the Trax cart uses some sort of notches on the axle for the Trax wheels to lock onto.

I was really hoping the wheels were interchangeable on the carts since I don't need (nor can afford) two complete carts. Oh well, I guess I'm stuck with the standard cart and wheels :(

rockcrawler,
Sorry to hear of your problem. I'm surprised your dealer didn't know the difference and also ordered the balloon wheels instead of the complete Trax cart. When I looked into this the separate wheels cost almost as much!
The Trax cart has a longer and stronger axle (solid 1/2" bar as opposed to 1/2"tube) necessary for the wider balloon wheels.
You can fit different wheels to the Trax cart. The Hobie heavy duty pnuematic wheels fit.

I posted a an extensive how-to here:
viewtopic.php?t=8956
but it has been lost in the forum upgrade. :( (Why is that Matt??)
The standard cart wheels can also be made to fit using simple spacers.
I'd be talking to my dealer about a cart swap!
Using the search function will bring up more useful info such as :

Must be unrelated to the "upgrade"... the topic thread is there, but the post is not?

Matt,
There was a lot of info and pics in the post that are no longer showing.
The info disappeared at the time of the forum upgrade.
Another problem is that old post apostrophes are now corrupted. You can see it in the above post.

I have seen that a lot. Has something to do with a font change I think.

OK,
But where did the original post info go?
Lost in cyberspace?

Yep... lost in space I would bet. No idea how or why one post in a topic would simply disappear, but these are computers and .... happens.
