Hello all, Really considering buying an AI. Trying to figure out the easiest way to transport. I have a pick up truck with a 6 foot bed and was wondering if anyone here uses a bed extender to transport thier AI. Really want to avoid a trailer if possible. Thanks in advance for any advice, Jay |

Jay, welcome to the forum. Technically yes, you can load an Adventure/AI in the back of a 6' bed with a bed extender. But, as you can see, it sticks out quite a bit. You might want to check to see if there are any limitations as to how far something can extend beyond the rear axle in your area. You also have to take care about the boat swinging wide on corners.

I transport my AI in the bed of my Toyota Tundra (6' bed) with the bed extender with no problems. You just have to make sure to put a red flag at the stern of the boat because it extends more than 3 feet beyond the bed (at least in California). The lake I go to most often is not far from my house so I transport the AI fully assembled, right side up, then back down the ramp similar to how you would with a trailer. If I'm going a longer distance (like a drive of more than an hour or so) then I remove the ama/aka's and load the hull upside down to prevent hull deformation. Either way the bed extender is plenty long for the AI. Just remember the red flag to keep it legal. |
