Congratulations on your purchase Julian. Yes I am confident the toggle handles are there for that very thing Julian. They are very strong and I use them on my AI all the time, and I definitely would should I ever own a TI....Pirate

The carry handles are there to carry the boat, but DO NOT hang any kayak from them.

Matt is that because of lack of confidence in the handles and attachment points, or because the hull is likely to distort?...Pirate

I think prolonged hanging by the handles causes problems with the inserts inside the hull where the screws attach. Something to do with the natural properties of the plastic over time.

Short term lifting to move the TI/AI is no problem.

This was covered in another thread someplace. I'll link to it if I find it.

Looking at the number of Aussies posting at the minute, you'd think we were all inside out of the residual rain from Cyclone Yasi....Pirate

Scorching sun here in Sydney with gusty north wind. I'm worried my AI will become a small puddle of yellow plastic if I take it out!
End of heat wave Monday hopefully.

My mistake Cowsgomoo. I discovered my error a couple of mins back speaking to a guy on the NSW South Coast who tells me it is dry and humid there. We have had showers most of last night and today...It is cooling the place down which is quite nice. Otherwise I would be out trying out the new 'Pirate's Treasure'....Pirate

42 degrees C here today and blustery Northerlies.
CGM is right. If my memory serves me correctly when the plastic is under constant pressure (such as being hung by the handles) and subject to heat/cold cycles it can 'flow' weakening the area around the brass insert.
I don't think the problem is with the handles themselves.

Julian, I have never had a problem with them on the AI but I do not trust them. More so on the TI.
