Can anyone give their experience with putting the TI onto the roof of a sedan. I have a Subaru liberty that I am wanting to put on top of the car. I have checked with the weight of the roof rack and it is ok, I am interested with getting it up and traveling with it on the roof.

Paul67,

I have little knowledge in transporting the AI or TI on top of a car, but with all due respect Paul67, I feel perfectly confident in saying you will have a problems if you try roof racking your Subaru Liberty.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooops

I thought that the TI had a weight capacity if 1ton

I am sure everyone knows what I mean (I hope)!!

I want to put the TI on top of my car; and not the car ontop of the TI.

Looks like the liberty has a weight capacity of 180lbs...you will be right at the max if you have any sort of kayak adapters attached to your roof. I think kayak, amas and mast total 176.5 lbs.

I think it was RR that suggested the best option for car topping would be to get a hitch installed and then get a t-bar that comes off the hitch. This cuts the weight on the roof in half and makes it easier to get the TI up on the roof. Also increases stability. Can you get a hitch for the liberty?

Maybe you could make some Tandem Island Pirate Pillows to support the hull on the roof racks?

JG thanks for the advise. Sorry I have no idea what you are talking about! Remember I am a newbee.

Have you the link to RR suggestions?
I am not sure what a hitch is; nor do I know what a t bar is.

Could you dumb it down for me (I am a bit thick)

Regards Paul

Hiya,

A t-bar is something similar to this.

but ofcourse the tbar bit at the end is longer/higher to match the height of the vehicle you are using it on..

I ithnk when he speaks of RR he means Roadrunner, I cant find the post he is on about himself right now sadly.

Here's Roadrunner's post on using a t bar with a hitch: viewtopic.php?f=71&t=22849
and here's a commercial example: http://www.thule.com/en/US/Products/Wat ... /9644.aspx

The hitch is the towbar fitting which has to be installed on the car.
