I have a new Hobie Double Trailer and after its first 100 miles or so I noticed the inside of one wheel has sprays of grease around the rim. It looks like grease is spewing out of the bearing on the inside and the centrifugal force of the wheel and bearing turning is slinging the grease around the inside of the wheel. Has anyone else experienced this? I am concerned about losing too much grease and having the bearing overheat and fail.

That's normal. I added Bearing Buddies and the Bra so it wouldn't happen on mine.

I am familliar with bearing buddies, but not the Bra. The grease is only coming out on the inside of the bearing, not the outside where bearing buddies mount.

I haven't seen that with mine, but maybe the Bearing Buddies make it different.

yakaboutit, If you have grease on the inside of the wheel your rubber seal is damaged or blown out...forcing too much grease in the hub could do this or it could be a bad seal...

Thanks for the advice!

It sounds like I should take the bearing cover off to see how much grease is in there. If there is substantial grease I will clean the wheel and watch for additional grease spatters. If the grease keeps coming out, it's probably a bad seal and should be covered under warranty considering this is a new trailer.
