Here is the basis of my information about Florida's requirements.

Technically, it seems that the TI may be exempt from registration in Florida, but not exempt from titling in Florida, as it is more that 16 feet long. That's not a big deal if you purchase the boat in Florida, as you have already paid Florida sales tax on it. But if you purchased it elsewhere, paying Florida sales tax on a boat that you already own holds no great attraction. Delaware is a non-title state, a "registration" card is all you get from the state as proof of ownership.

Relatively new TI owner using the hobie double trailer with cradles(a version of the SUT-450). I've asked the local tax collectors here in Bay County, FL and they told me on two separate occasions that the TI didn't require registration. Didn't want to put stickers on my boat anyway.

I sail both a TI & AI in Florida and have not registered either boat. Coast Guard and local police boats have passed close to me many times without any problems.

Sounds like I may have been mis-advised, but I do have a clarification question for any of you Florida-resident TI sailors.

Although you have not had to put Florida registration numbers on your hull, were you required to title your TI in Florida when you purchased it?

Just like to mention, as a police officer, that doesn't mean anything. You may be right, I have no idea, but not getting stopped when they see you doesn't mean you're ok. It might just mean they were lazy that day or didn't care where another officer might. I see stuff all day long I don't feel like messing with. Doesn't mean it was ok. Odds are you are right, but...
