Post subject: | Remodeled my trailer ready for TI |
I totally remade my custom trailer the last 2 weekends making room for a new TI (not ordered yet) The new configuration will hold my AI, Mirage Adventure, and a TI. When I pull the trigger on the the TI it will occupy the lower berth and the AI will move to the top. I have a very neat trick coming in the next few days for Ama transportation. I will not continue to load and unload either boat with Amas fully attached. I have never had an Aka bar jamb until I bought the cradles and tried leaving everything attached. I have read many post regarding the Aka being stuck and always thought I was lucky to get a boat that did not happen on, mine have always come out with ease, but leaving everything attached and loading on the cradles caused 3 out of 4 to stick. It tool two people to get it apart. If you did not see my old post on trailer, 2 years ago, It is a converted single jet ski trailer I got for cheap - let me know what you think. Cheers. /Users/jbrewer3/Pictures/iPhoto Library_1 (rebuilt)/Masters/2012/04/28/20120428-210046/IMG_0819.JPG /Users/jbrewer3/Pictures/iPhoto Library_1 (rebuilt)/Masters/2012/04/28/20120428-210046/IMG_0820.JPG /Users/jbrewer3/Pictures/iPhoto Library_1 (rebuilt)/Masters/2012/04/28/20120428-210046/IMG_0822.JPG /Users/jbrewer3/Pictures/iPhoto Library_1 (rebuilt)/Masters/2012/04/28/20120428-210046/IMG_0823.JPG /Users/jbrewer3/Pictures/iPhoto Library_1 (rebuilt)/Masters/2012/04/28/20120428-210046/IMG_0824.JPG /Users/jbrewer3/Pictures/iPhoto Library_1 (rebuilt)/Masters/2012/04/28/20120428-210046/IMG_0826.JPG /Users/jbrewer3/Pictures/iPhoto Library_1 (rebuilt)/Masters/2012/04/28/20120428-210046/IMG_0829.JPG /Users/jbrewer3/Pictures/iPhoto Library_1 (rebuilt)/Masters/2012/04/28/20120428-210046/IMG_0831.JPG |

For sticking/jammed akas, check out my thread http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=42200 It is titled: "V2 AKA sticking—the cause and remedy—no tool needed" Keith |

you can't post pictures directly from you're hard drive - you must first load them to a photo-hosting website like Flikr or photobucket (you create an acct. - both free) and then post the link from their website ... looking foward to seeing your handywork |

Hi Fishyak, I have also used a single jetski trailer to take the TI. viewtopic.php?f=71&t=41032 You will also find with the TI, the armas sit much more flat in line with the hull of the TI. The cradles have the hull and support for outriggers at about the same height (flat). So on a trailer, you do not get such a twisting action on the akas as on the AI where the tail end hangs down from the hull. |

Nice set-up Fishyak. I like your adjustabls/removable top cross bars and supports. What brand are they? Looks very professional. For the Tandem Island, I had to extend my drawbar by about 1 m (3 foot). On my trailer this was easy as it had a two piece square tube bar with one section telescoping inside the outer. I just bought a longer section and drilled new holes for the hitch and locking pin. Then by our road laws here I had to add an extra section of safety chain. Love to see when you have the TI on it. |

Those are Thule truck racks, with the WIDEST whisper bars I have ever seen! |

NOHUHU is correct they are Thule with some mods. My goal was have the choice of transporting one yak with a lower profile and lower weight, or install the upper rack and take 3 with some spare room. The Thule cross bars are standard width and the support struts are extended to near maximum width to allow a TI on the bottom berth, 4' with amas attached. You may noticed I cut down the foot rail of the rack risers to the width of 2 4x4s and drilled 1/2 holes, installed 2 5" SS bolts. I am installing new tail lights next that will rise 4' high for better visibility. I also plan on stealing the idea from another thread for the PVC Pipe mast/sail storage compartment. For the AI I will be installing 2 PVC pipes to hold the ama upside down to each side of the kayak, not attached to aka, aka storage is under the kayak in the crawl space. Could not have done this without all the international research done on this Hobie forum! Thanks for the kind words. |

Added 1 1/2" PVC risers to carry ama, very secure, float upside down without touching anything but the PVC riser. Tonight will add small knobs for bungie to hold on to - Now on to a few boat mods, hakas top priority - they are going to rock! |

Thats too funny and you don't even know how close to the truth that is! I lost my sailing partner, our only son is hiking the AT (Appalachian Trail) from Georgia to Maine and won't be done until September. So I am getting things ready for the new crew, my wife! Can't wait to get the TI. |

Looks like you turned a flatbed trailer into a swell custom built trailer for anything that needs to be hauled. Congratulations. |
