Can anyone tell me if the add-on cart cradle #80044202 is available? I've been trying to locate a photo but have not had any luck. Hobie support said its available to contact my dealer but could not help me with the photo. Sure would like to see what I'm ordering.

That is very interesting, I wasn't aware that this was available, which Kayak is this cradle used with?

Good to see Hobie have finally addressed the long overdue issue of hull support while on the scupper cart! 8)

More details on this would be appreciated.

Thank you for quick reply and photo. I'm going to give it a try on the TI.

Matt or anyone else from Hobie, could we have some more details on this?
What is it made from?
What kayaks does it fit?
Is it available down under yet?
I've just spoken to my Hobie dealer and he has no knowledge of it.

Very nice!
And it makes my hacked up cart mod made with lots of love completely obsolete.

Though listed in a couple of places online, I couldn't find pricing and availability in any of the online dealers. Did anyone order one of those?

Also, I am wondering if this is enough support to store the TI with this cart in the scupper hole and say a car tire laid under the bow. Or should I still remove it from the cart and place it on a softer and larger surface? (I can't hang it where I store it.)

Thanks!

-Pesan

The add on cradle is mentioned on page 32 in the 2012 fall parts and accessories catalog. In bold red print and a little * note, it states this cradle is required on Tandem Islands ( add-on cart cradle #80044202). Unfortunately there is no pic or price in the catalog. It is available online or from any Hobie dealer for I think $29.99
I highly recommend all TI owners who haul their TI's on plug in carts get this piece. I've had bad experiences (ie.. torn hulls) hauling my loaded TI's on plug in carts without something like this.
Well done Hobie Engineering.
Bob

It's designed for the Tandem Island.

As noted: it is in the Fall Catalog.

Thermal-formed ABS. No rubber pads.

Only supports the main hull. Does not support the amas.

#80044202 CRADLE / PLUG-IN CART FOR TI USE

$29.99 List (USA / USD 9-2012).

Shipped a quantity to Australia in October.

Hang on a minute. Maybe not!

Actually I've moved away from using the scupper cart with the TI. It's just too difficult to get it back in when retrieving. I'm interested in this new cart cradle to improve hull support when used with the C-Tug cart. I've ordered one from my dealer, though they are unavailable downunder and no ETA! :(

PS: I'm wondering how strong those unsupported ends are on this new cradle?

I just got a C-Tug cart and I'm not sure adding the cradle is necessary. The C-Tug seems to have enough contact area to support the TI for short hauls. Much more than a scupper cart, anyway.

I tried it this week with my TI and it worked well. I did enlarge the holes very slightly so it can slip on and off easier, as I remove it and disassemble the cart into the front hatch for storage. Nice addition.

Doug,
I've had a C-Tug for about 2 years which I've used as a supplementary cart for the TI. The big flat pads do work but they can leave flat spots on the hull.

Bob,
Thanks, that's good to know.
Is it a similar width to the trailer cradles?
Could you post a pic of the underside of the cradle?

So at that price, it is obviously just the white glass-fibre part which fits onto an existing trolley, right?

Yes, but it is plastic. Price here is $49 according to my dealer.
