Post subject:  Building from scratch TI all aluminium trailer

As a winter project, ( we are in the snow here in Quebec) i started a new trailer project in my basement. All aluminium trailer for my new TI which is in order at this time. I should get it in april 2013. I already got some matérial ready, and i started to build it, after drawing my plans. I will try to post some pictures if i can find how ;0). I will be using PVC pipes for supporting the TI instead of the Hobie cradles. I am also planning to make Hakas and also a beach cart. Should have enough of 4 months to do everything...well i hope. 8)

The basic frame is made of 4 aluminium channels 2''X3'' 5/16 thick, cut at 45 degre angle on each end. It is bolted together with 6''x6'' 1/4 plate gussets on top and bottom. I used zinc grade 8 ( 5 was not available) hex bolt and nylock nuts. 6 bolts on each gusset.

Here is one gusset

My next step will be to set-up the bolting of the top channels to the posts. It will be bolted on front and back of channel on the post and with an additional angle inside for support. There will be a third top channel that will be fixed to the tongue with square U bolts in front of the 4x4 frame. The distance will be about 4 feet forward. The suspension will be 425 lbs total capacity Flexiride half axles , bolted on a 3/8'' thick aluminiun plate, 8 inches wide and 48 inches long that will be bolted under the main frame. I will use 8 inches wheels with high load tires. I expect the total weight of trailer and TI to be 385 pounds.
More pics to follow.....when i get my material :D

Great job guys, How does the motor mount work for you? What size motor do you use and how fast does it go?
I also built my own aluminum trailer similar to your construction except I used 2" square tube with .25 wall thickness 6061T-6 aluminum. Love it and it works slick as can be.
